My first experiences

Bodleian Education Library

The first two weeks just rushed by… - introductions, getting to know new colleagues, getting settled and used to living in Oxford and of course sightseeing.

This is a very brief summary of the start of my internship. If you have already visited the “About us” site, you will have noticed that I am placed in two libraries. I have spent the first two weeks in both libraries, together with the other Swiss intern Alexa (she captures her impressions on Instagram: the_short_librarian). Because both libraries are part of the Bodleian Libraries there are some similarities.

In the Education Library, I could for example join a group of soon-to-be-teachers to get to know SOLO (the library catalogue) and the reference management software Mendeley or did some book processing. In the Sainsbury Library I got to know about who has which responsibility – and of course lots more… Just briefly, the Education Library is part of the Department of Education and the Sainsbury Library is part of the Saïd Business School.

The Bodleian Libraries cover a total of 31 libraries which together form the largest UK university library system. Also, the Bodleian Library is one of the eight legal deposit libraries in the UK.

It is very exciting here and – of course – there is still lots to get to know and learn here in Oxford!

That’s it for now – but still lots to come  😊
