Hello Guys

After a long time ago I let you read something by me. On Sunday this weekend I am here for 3 months. So half term turns to the last month in oxford. But you’re not interested to read when I will go home, you wont to hear anything about what happened in the last few weeks. So let me tell you about a several exciting Sessions.

At the end of october on a monday was a film set in the Old Library to shoot a murderer scene, the librarian was the victim. It was quiet weird to see how all the library objects put in the Seminar-room to have them out of way. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there when they were filming but I was in another very interesting session.

Daryl had a Session with a group of students about the gospels of Michael published in differentness ages from early 13thcentury until middle 15thcentury. He laying up some of the books in the old Seminar room so we could look through them and also feel the differences of the papers there were use. And of course he showed us the famous 3 papyrus pieces of an original gospel.

To hear what the story of those books is and why they got written was very interesting. One book was printed in 5 different languages. I think it was greek, latin, heroic and the others I am sorry but I can’t remember. Maybe you will figure it out on the pictures that are on this Blog post to. But most of the books had lots of holes because the bookworms (or woodworms) searched a way out, but couldn’t find one.

Then we had our grande exhibition opening for “Lawrence of oxford”. Over 100 people visited the talk and after it the exhibition in the Old Library. His Life story is very interesting and he did many various things. Some examples: Thomas Edward Lawrence is an old member of the Magdalen College. He was a British archaeologist, military officer, diplomat and writer. You know him also has “Lawrence of Arabia”.

I also had again an introduction to the archives and there Rooms to prepare me for my little project there. I am so excited. J

As well I will tell you short about a special trainee session in the Book storage facility. If you want to read more fact details and see some more photos, just check out the blog post about it. For me it was very interesting visit this storage and how the hole thing works.

Finally I had a very interesting introduction and Tour around the conservation studio in the charity library. Jas and Jessy two conservators explained how we have to handle books especially rare books. Also they showed us at which project they at the moment work. Repair the book spine, try to bring the rarer book back into a right shape form or clean manuscripts of mould.

So I hope you enjoyed to read something new written by me.

Goodbye Anny
